CONTEXA is the contextual advertising module of hakia’s Semantic Advertising System.
CONTEXA provides page-level contextual analysis on-the-fly and outputs keywords that represent the meaning of the page along with their meaning score. CONTEXA is offered as a service and can be integrated into any ad system.
How Does CONTEXA Work?
CONTEXA is built in three layers. The very first layer extracts the useful text from a given HTML. Although sounds something easy to do, developers with hands-on experience can tell you that the standard parsers extract too much peripheral junk. CONTEXA's extractor was designed to overcome these types of problems which have crucial importance.
CONTEXA's second layer is its characterizer. Characterizer identifies the best summarizing phrases of a given text using text compression and concept detection techniques. The phrases are produced with scores that enables the system to prioritize them.
CONTEXA's third layer is its generalizer. If the content is characterized as "Beat Generation", how can we generalize it so that we can match it to an existing ad in the system, may be as general as "history of literature" or simply "literature". Generalizer outputs several levels of generalization terms convenient enough to pull a matching ad from any ad repository.
